Homeschooling exposed learning gaps we didn’t even know existed.

Sean & Yessi | Pennsylvania

With everything that happened in 2020, a lot of students ended up missing out on valuable learning. And that included our son Noah, who was doing so well in third grade at the time. He was always on the honor roll, at the top of his class. We had seen his grades and his achievements, so we naturally assumed he had a solid foundation. But then we discovered some major gaps in his knowledge and realized something wasn't quite right. There were areas where he was really struggling, and it caught us off guard. I remember being surprised and a little worried.

We had been considering homeschooling; however, we just didn’t think there was something out there that would be possible for us. We had some very specific criteria in mind. We needed a pre-planned curriculum that would make our lives easier. As a teacher, I know planning lessons takes hours, and with work on top of that, it seemed impossible. But then we found Abeka Academy, and it is such a comprehensive curriculum. It was a game-changer for us.

Living in Pennsylvania, we had to make sure we met the state's homeschooling regulations. We needed a curriculum that included all the essential subjects, like math, reading, writing, spelling, and history. Abeka Academy had it all covered. So, we decided to give it a try, and they even had this amazing 25-hour free trial offer. We sat down as a family and dove into the program. And you know what? The kids were actually engaged. It was impressive. We were interested, they were interested, and that was a good sign.

Math was one of the areas we really had to focus on. Noah needed help with basic math facts like multiplication and division. In the beginning, he couldn't even remember the times tables. We had to use training wheels, like a multiplication chart, to get him started. But now? He can recite them without a problem. It's amazing to see the progress he's made.

The ABA curriculum is definitely challenging, but it is laid out in a way that makes learning attainable. I never felt overwhelmed or like it was too much. We could adjust the pace and make sure Noah reached his goals without feeling like it was impossible. It's so thorough that Noah is learning things he might not have learned until much later in a traditional school. I appreciate how well-rounded his education is becoming.

And you know what I really love? The way the curriculum is built on concepts. Each unit isn’t just a one-time thing. They revisit topics and reinforce them. So, I know that next year, Noah will go over those concepts again, making sure they stick. It's a great way to ensure he doesn't forget what he's learned.

I can already see my daughter, who's in K-4, getting those strong reading skills she needs.

As a mom, one of my concerns was whether Noah would get the foundational skills he needed, especially in reading. But Abeka Academy's phonics program has been incredible. It starts from the basics and keeps building on them. I can already see my daughter, who's in K-4, getting those strong reading skills she needs.

And the quality of the math program is outstanding. Noah really knows his math facts now. And let me tell you, I had my doubts at first. But Abeka Academy's approach allowed him to ask questions, to pause the lessons and dive deeper into the concepts. It made a big difference in his understanding.

Looking back, I can't believe how much Noah has grown. His brain is like a sponge, absorbing all this information. He's singing songs, quoting facts, and even memorizing state capitals. It's truly amazing what a child can learn in just one year. He went from struggling with the basics to mastering them.

We wanted Noah to learn that failure isn't something to fear. We wanted him to understand that failure is part of the learning process. Abeka Academy's supportive environment helped him develop that mindset. He knows that it's okay to make mistakes and that he can learn from them and keep moving forward.

All in all, homeschooling with Abeka Academy has been transformative for Noah. It filled those educational gaps he had and gave him a solid foundation. He's not only excelling academically but also developing a genuine love for learning, and we couldn't be more grateful.
